GMS SLR carbon side skirts push the Alfa Romeo 4C’s aerodynamics to the next level, combining stunning design, race-grade materials and CFD proven performance. It is the latest add-on to the collection of GMS carbon aero parts.
Designed with aerodynamic efficiency in mind as a main goal, GMS SLR carbon side skirts integrate dual carbon vertical winglets on top of the skirts and triple flexible winglets at the bottom side.
How the assembly works?
On a 4C, large section of the rear tires protrudes out of the body width of the car, especially on cars with wider rear wheels and tires than OEM. For example, in case of a 18" x 9.5" wheels and 265/35/18 rear tires, the tire protruding section has a rough size of 206 cm2 on each side. Above 160km/h, this becomes a noticeable air brake by generating lots of drag. As a solution, large vertical carbon winglet in slightly flexed shape of “reverse C” is mounted to the GMS carbon SLR side skirt to seal the gap between the OEM sill and deflect the air away from the rear tire section.
Between the both winglets - vertical large and vertical small, air speed is slowed down and consequentially, downforce is generated.
Finally, on the bottom side, there are 3 flexible winglets on each side. Bottom winglet behind the front tire, generates vortices and guides the turbulent air away from there, reducing drag behind the front tire and reducing the amount of tubulent air traveling along the line towards the rear tire section. Additionally, there are two bottom winglets in front of the rear tire. Similar principle, but in this case, the winglets generate vortices, to help reduce the amount of turbulent air that will hit the rear tire section, further reducign the darg.
All elements combined, CFD simulation estimates up to 5.4% of total drag reduction (depending of the rear tire width and wheel protrusion), while increasing downforce by approximately 15 kg at 160 km/h, giving your 4C grip, improved stability and planted feel at high speeds.
GMS SLR carbon side skirts feature light, yet strong construction. Key element is CNC cut 2x2 Twill 3K prepreg carbon fiber sandwich plate, providing support for carbon fiber top winglets and flexible and durable ShA 98 polymer bottom winglets. FEM simulation estimates each GMS SLR carbon side skirt being capable of withstanding over 40 kg of vertical load, sufficient for speeds of over 300km/h. Span width is adjustable -/+ 40 mm, allowing you to fine tune car’s appearance and airflow balance, depending of the tire width. Weight of fully assembled GMS SLR carbon side skirts comes at only 3.990g, ensuring an ultra-lightweight, yet exceptionally strong structure. To perfectly complement the 4C’s factory carbon weave, the GMS SLR carbon side skirts are available in raw or high-gloss finish.
GMS SLR carbon side skirts don’t just transform your 4C into an aggressive looking race car, but perform and deliver results. Effective, light, durable and flawless, plug-and-play fit with effortless installation.
Available in raw or high gloss finish. Various upper winglet configurations available to choose - none, single (2x small winglet only) and double (2x small and 2x large winglet).
